Bahamian sloop sailing became the National Sport of The Bahamas on April 21, 2023, during the 67th National Family Island Regatta in Exuma, when the House of Assembly passed a resolution replacing cricket as the 50th anniversary of independence approached.
Sailing was always the national sport in Black Point and we have a the history and sailing legends to prove it.
The mission of Black Point Sailing is to encourage all aspects of sailing in the community of Black Point, and recognize the importance of Bahamian sailing by supporting and educating future generations of sailors, to be a financial resource for repairs and upkeep and to also support our sailors to compete in regattas. We want to ensure our vibrant sailing tradition long into the future.
Your Annual Membership will primarily support boat repairs and financial support for sailors racing in regattas. Our sailors take time off from work - without compensation - often paying out of pocket for their travel, accommodation and basic daily expenses. Our boats include A-Class, C-Class and E-Class which constantly need repairs (sails, parts, paint, labor costs and many other expenses).
With or without Membership - every donation, in any amount, is appreciated. We also greatly appreciate monthly donations. Thank you!
